Deadnaught Basic Combat Demo
you are the pilot of a dead alien in a metal shell
You come to consciousness. The bed is framed in metal tubes, padding threadbare, velcro straps keeping you in place, Your hand lands on a patch of rust as you sit up; rust is everywhere. Unstrapping yourself, you float up and off towards the far wall. A huge round window is inset in the wall, a solid clear disc. A blue earth glacially floats past.
An earth covered in what appears to be long, dark red tendrils, stretching the width of continents and oceans.
Green text on an old computer monitor lights up a corner of the dimly lit room. It shows a single prompt.
"ESTIMATED RESOURCES REQUIRED FOR THANATOS BIOFLUX REPLENISHMENT: THIRTY FOUR (34) UNITS.
PROCEED WITH CRYOPOD DECANTING Y/N?"
An hour later you are reclined on your back, in a drone aircraft five miles above the surface of the planet. The lid of your metal control-coffin is five inches away from your face, the CRT almost too near for your eyes to focus on. Your hands move, out of sight, on ancient controls positioned down by your thighs.
Your face is lit up by the explosions and the green reflections of ichor. You try not to think about what it is you are killing. Or what you are using to do it.
Five miles below you, on a burnt plateau, a metal beast crashes across the hard cracked ground, occasionally blurring into high speeds on plumes of purple tinted flame. Streams of shells and explosions crunch and detonate, producing plumes of rock dust from the shadowed rocks. Sprays of green blood and chunks of strange flesh scatter as the weird, chittering creatures in the darkness scream, explode, and continue their berserk advance.
You focus on eliminating the enemy. Pushing to the back of your mind what it is you are controlling, five miles beneath you. The thing entombed in metal plates and armor, unearthly flesh and fluids moving from the stimulation of crude electrodes. What you saw not half an hour ago replenishing its strength by...
...eating.
This is a basic combat demo for Deadnaught, an upcoming horror-themed mech 2D top down shooter, with an X-COM like strategy layer.
Requirements: a Windows machine, with some form of graphics accelerator, and possibly Mac/Linux/Chromebook.
The full game will feature varied missions investigating monster strongholds and unusual phenomena, resource capture missions, missions defending other factions and so on. Research, engineering and other facilities can also be built in the orbital facility, allowing the Deadnaught various upgrades, tools, weapons and equipment as development is invested in.
Find out what is left on the Earth, what the enemy is and if there are allies. Find out if there are any paths left into any kind of future at all. Or perhaps find a way to take vengeance for the entire human race.
Upcoming
As more mission types, enemies and a destructible terrain system is added, this demo will be updated. In the longer term I aim to eventually release Deadnaught in Steam Early Access and then go from there.
Do leave comments on bugs, issues and suggestions! Appreciate your time trying this basic prototype out!
